What kind of management degree should you get?

The degree program you choose will depend largely upon how broad – or tailored – you want your education to be.

If you’re looking for a broad-based business education, consider a bachelor’s in business administration with a management concentration. But if you really want to hone your studies in on management, look for programs that are more focused – like a bachelor of science in management.

And don’t fret if your life and work circumstances won’t allow you to attend an on-campus program. There are many affordable, flexible, and academically rigorous programs available online – many of which are accredited by the top business accrediting agencies: the AACSB, ACBSP, and the IACBE.

Check out the College Choice ranking of the Most Affordable Online Colleges for more information.

How much money do people make with a management degree?

Generally speaking, yearly incomes change dramatically with the level of education you receive. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the average salary for the holder of an associate’s degree at $42,588. Compare that to the annual salary for someone with a bachelor’s degree: $60,112.

The BLS further states that management occupations currently command the highest wage of all the major occupational groups. Of course, salaries vary widely with educational level, work experience, and geographical location. But with a degree in management, you’ll be on your way to receiving a very lucrative salary.

What can you do with a degree in management?

With a degree in management, you’ll be well prepared to pursue a career in a wide variety of industry sectors. From retail, healthcare, and hospitality to music, sports, nonprofits, and government. And if you have entrepreneurial leanings, you’ll have the knowledge you need to start your own business.

The possibilities are almost endless. Wherever your interests lie, there’s probably a need for managers with solid business skills. Here are some other job titles your management degree may qualify you for:

  • Operations Manager
  • Department Manager
  • Customer Service Manager
  • Marketing Manager
  • Project Manager

What are the requirements for a degree in management?

Admissions requirements for an undergraduate program vary depending on whether the degree is a completion program (meaning you’ve already completed a number of college-level courses) or a complete degree program.

Either kind of program may require transcripts from high school, but completion programs will also require transcripts from any other institution you’ve attended since high school. Completion programs may also require you to complete certain prerequisites before you’re admitted to the major.

Read the admissions pages on program websites closely to ensure that you’re not missing anything, and if you have any questions be sure to contact admissions staff.

At College Choice, we want to help you find a great online program at an affordable price.

Our research team has scoured the internet, searching for accredited, online degree programs and then dug up their net prices from the National Center for Educational Statistics website.

Net price is important because it takes into consideration any extra fees that schools often stack on top of the per-credit tuition rate. So you can feel confident that price you see is pretty close to what you’ll actually be expected to pay.

We then rank the schools according to cost and lay them out for you in an easily digestible ranking. We hope this helps you find a great – and affordable – program!
