Some will require a few days on-campus for an occasional intensive or for orientation, but most are fully online. In order to pursue the RN to BSN programs, you will typically need an active RN license and a diploma or Associate of Arts. Chatham University, formerly founded as Pennsylvania Female College in 1869, and later Pennsylvania College for Women, is a coeducational university located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The university currently serves a population of 2, 134 students and grants certificates and bachelor, master, first-professional, and doctorate degrees. The school also offers online programs including the RN-to-BSN degree, which is based on a strong liberal arts and science foundation. This program is focused on developing leadership and management skills, career mobility, and gateways for furthering the students’ educations. Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) is a public research university located in Indianapolis, Indiana. It falls under the university systems of both Indiana University and Purdue University as a result of a merger in 1969. The IUPUI campus offers more than 200 degree programs and serves over 30,000 students. The School of Nursing, which was found in 1914, offers an online RN-to-BSN Completion Option through all eight campuses across the state of Indiana. University of Saint Francis is a liberal arts university located in Fort Wayne, Indiana that is also affiliated with the Catholic Church. Originally founded in 1890 as Saint Francis College, the university was renamed University of Saint Francis in 1998. The school currently enrolls approximately 2,400 students. University of Saint Francis offers undergraduate, graduate, and online degrees. The RN-to-BSN degree offered by the University of Saint Francis is an accelerated, online program for RNs seeking a baccalaureate degree in nursing. Northern Arizona University is public university located in Flagstaff, Arizona. It has 36 satellite campuses in Arizona. Northern Arizona University serves over 26,000 students. The nursing program was established in 1962 and received its first full accreditation in 1963. In 1973, the baccalaureate program was developed as a “career ladder program,” which later became the RN-to-BSN completion program. This program is ideal for students who have already graduated from a state or nationally accredited nursing program. The University of South Alabama is a public, national research university in Mobile, Alabama. Founded in 1963, University of South Alabama still stands as the only major public university on the upper Gulf Coast and enrolls over 16,000 students. The university offers undergraduate, graduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees as well as online programs. The University of South Alabama offers a competitive RN-to-BSN pathway as well as a RN-to-BSN/MSN pathway. The RN-to-BSN pathway is ideal for working, licensed RNs pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. University of Northern Colorado
The University of Northern Colorado is a public baccalaureate and graduate research university located in Greeley, Colorado. It was originally founded in 1889 as the State Normal School of Colorado. Today, University of Northern Colorado serves over 12,000 students through its six colleges. The university also offers over 100 undergraduate programs, nearly 50 graduate degree programs, and online programs for nontraditional students. University of Northern Colorado does offer an RN-to-BSN degree for RNs with an ADN degree. The program begins each Fall and Spring term and includes a one-day orientation in Loveland, Colorado. The program is also accredited and fully online. The degree is designed to be completed in 20 months.

University of Nebraska
The University of Nebraska, established in 1869, is a public research university in Lincoln, Nebraska. It is the oldest and largest university in the state and is the flagship university of the University of Nebraska system, which includes four campuses and a two-year technical agricultural college. The university also offers online programs, such as the RN-to-BSN online advancement program for RNs who have either an Associate Degree in Nursing or a Diploma in Nursing. The program stands to help experienced nurses continue their education with a flexible schedule available online anywhere, at anytime. Some courses require time/log-in-specific classes, or synchronous logins. After completing or transferring prerequisite classes, students can complete all classes online and expect to take about up to three years to finish the program part-time. University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is one of four campuses of the University of Massachusetts System. It is located in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts. It is a part of the University of Massachusetts System, including locations in Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, Lowell, Worcester, and Springfield, Massachusetts, which collectively serve approximately 72,000 students. University of Massachusetts Dartmouth serves just over 9,000 students, with nearly 400 of those students enrolled in online programs. Originally founded as Northwestern Territorial Normal School in 1897, the now Northwestern Oklahoma State University offers both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Northwestern Oklahoma State University is a state-assisted, public regional university and is based in Alva, Oklahoma. The school also has satellite campuses in Enid and Woodward, Oklahoma. Northwestern Oklahoma State University offers the RN-to-BSN completion program, which has been recently rated one of the best RN-to-BSN Programs in the nation. Loyola University Chicago is a private, Jesuit university located in Chicago, Illinois. It was founded by the Roman Catholic Society of Jesus in 1870 under the name “St. Ignatius College.” It is now one of the largest Jesuit universities in the United States with a total enrollment of over 16,000 students. The online RN-to-BSN that Loyola offers is ideal for licensed, practicing professional nurses who are looking for an advanced degree. Courses are taught in 6-8 week sessions. Sacred Heart University, a Catholic university, is located in Fairfield, Connecticut. It was founded in 1963 and is the second largest university in the New England area, just after Boston College. As of the 2014-2015 year, Sacred Heart University serves just fewer than 8,000 full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students. Sacred Heart University offers four online degree programs, including a RN-to-BSN completion program. There are six start dates for the program and each class session is 8 weeks long. First established as Southwestern Normal School in 1901, Southwestern Oklahoma State University is now public university located in Weatherford and Sayre, Oklahoma. Loyola University New Orleans is a private, Jesuit university located in New Orleans, Louisiana. Originally established as Loyola College in 1904, the institution became a university in 1912. The university serves almost 5,000 students, over half of those being undergraduates. The RN-to-BSN completion program that St. Petersburg College offers is designed for a student who wants to build upon his or her already existing RN degree and experience. Ball State University, referred to as Ball State or BSU, is a public research university located in Muncie, Indiana. Jacksonville University is a private university in Jacksonville, Florida. The school was founded in 1934 as a two-year college and was known as a private 2-year college, William J. Porter University, then Jacksonville Junior College, until 1958 when it became Jacksonville University. Most of the almost 4,000 students currently at Jacksonville University are from Florida. Jacksonville University does offer an online RN-to-BSN program designed for busy working nurses with active lives. The program offers six yearly sessions and 8-week courses that are very manageable. University of Saint Mary
Established 1923, the University of Saint Mary is a private, liberal arts university in Leavenworth, Kansas. It was originally founded as a school for women, though it now admits both men and women. The University of Saint Mary offers 26 bachelor’s degree programs, six master’s degree programs, as well as online classes. The RN-to-BSN degree program offered by the university gives RNs the ability to stand out amongst the growing demand for qualified nurses. The University of Saint Mary supports working RNs and recent graduates throughout the degree completion through supportive faculty and staff. Western Governors University
Western Governors University is a private, nonprofit, online university based in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is a relatively new university, having only been founded in 1997, however it serves nearly 60,000 students. Western Governors University’s motto is “Online. Accelerated. Affordable. Accredited.” driving the efficiency and winning it the title of “one of the 50 most innovative companies” in Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies Issue. Not lacking in achievement is the online RN-to-BSN degree that WCU offers, which also works around the student’s schedule. The average time it takes to finish the RN-to-BSN degree at Western Governors is 18 months. But as the website boasts, “It’s your program. It’s up to you. Move at your own speed.” This program requires a minimum of 90 hours of mentor-guided clinical experience in a community health services setting.

Founded in 1956, University of Michigan in Flint, Michigan operates as a public university as one of the two University of Michigan satellite campuses. It is part of the University of Michigan System, with the flagship campus in Ann Arbor and two satellite campuses in Flint and Dearborn. The University of Michigan-Flint serves approximately 8,500 students, but maintains a low student/faculty ratio. The online RN-to-BSN program offered by University of Michigan-Flint is a flexible program that offers RNs the chance to forward their education even before receiving an RN license. It was founded in 1828 as the Lebanon Seminary and is the oldest university in the state of Illinois. McKendree University comprises McKendree College of Arts and Science, a School of Business, a School of Health Professions and a School of Education. The online RN-to-BSN program that McKendree State offers is held to the same standards as programs completed by students on campus. Southern Arkansas University, founded in 1909 originally as an agricultural high school, is a public university located in Magnolia, Arkansas, just 20 miles north of Louisiana. In 1975, the name was changed to Southern Arkansas University. Although the school sits on nearly 1,400 acres and offers over 80 degrees and programs, the school still maintains a 17 to 1 student-teacher ratio for its approximately 4,100 students. Southern Arkansas University offers an online RN-to-BSN program through the Department of Nursing in College of Science and Engineering. Northwestern State University
Northwestern State University of Louisiana is a four-year, public university primarily situated in Natchitoches, Louisiana. The university also extends its nursing campus in Shreveport and general campuses in Leesville/Fort Polk and Alexandria, Louisiana. Northwestern State University was originally founded in 1884 as the Louisiana State Normal School and was the first school in Louisiana to offer degree programs in nursing. The RN-to-BSN program is for students who have received their nursing diploma or associate’s degree and are seeking the flexibility of a baccalaureate degree. Northwestern State University requires 30 hours of on-campus enrollment, and it also awards up to 38 hours for prior experience. Most of the nursing courses are offered in 8-week sessions. This program requires 120 hours to complete, including 61 hours of nursing courses.
Upper Iowa University
Upper Iowa University is a private university located in Fayette, Iowa. While the university serves approximately 6,000 students, only about 1,000 of those students take traditional classes on campus while over 1,100 are enrolled online. Upper Iowa University offers distance education programs, online programs, and independent study programs in addition to traditional, on-campus degrees. Upper Iowa University currently offers an RN-to-BSN online program that is both affordable and flexible. The program assists licensed RNs advance to leadership positions in the workplace and/or graduate programs. One advantage of the RN-to-BSN program from Upper Iowa University is the ability to take the courses online, in person, or a combination of the two. The courses, however, are not self-paced. The program consists of deadlines just like traditional learners, but students can participate full-time or part-time as needed. The degree can be completed in as little as one year full-time.

A sixth campus, the ASU Colleges at Lake Havasu City, is located in northwestern Arizona. Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing (BSMCON), located in Richmond, Virginia, is a Catholic college that offers a traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing as well as an online RN to BSN degree completion program. Western Illinois University
Founded in 1899 as Western Illinois State Normal School, Western Illinois University is now a public university with its main campus located in Macomb, Illinois. The secondary campus is located in Moline, Illinois. Western Illinois University is composed of four academic colleges: Arts & Sciences, Business & Technology, Education & Human Services, and Fine Arts & Communication, in addition to an Honors College the School of Extended Studies, which includes nontraditional programs. Comprehensively, university currently serves over 12,000 students. University of Wisconsin Oshkosh
The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, also known as UW Oshkosh, is a public university located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. UW Oshkosh is the third largest university in Wisconsin, serving approximately 14,500 students. The university, founded in 1871, is part of the University of Wisconsin System and offers bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and online degrees. UW Oshkosh offers an accredited, Accelerated Online Bachelor’s to BSN Degree. This program is one of the only of its kind and is ideal for students who already have a bachelor’s degree, but are seeking a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Penn State University is a public research university based at University Park, consisting of 24 statewide campuses as well as its online campus, Penn State World Campus. Penn State offers an online RN-to-BSN degree program that has been developed for the working registered nurse looking to forward his or her career. University of Illinois has recently been recognized as the #2 University for online baccalaureate degrees in the nation. Fort Hays State University was founded 1902. It is a public university located in Hays, Kansas, serving nearly 15,000 students. Miami University Ohio, commonly referred to as Miami of Ohio or Miami U) is a public research university located in Oxford, Ohio. Founded in 1809, it is the 10th oldest public university in the United States and second oldest in Ohio, behind Ohio University. Miami University currently enrolls nearly 18,500 undergraduate and graduate students. Miami offers a flexible RN-to-BSN Completion Program online. Northeastern University also offers a RN-to-BSN online option that allows licensed RNs to further their career in less than three semesters. The RN-to-BSN program is composed of 16 semester hours of residency and 29 semester hours of in-depth, advanced courses. SUNY College of Technology at Delhi, also called SUNY Delhi, was founded in 1913. It is located in the Catskill Mountains, in the Town of Delhi, New York. SUNY Delhi currently enrolls over 3,600 students. The school is currently focused on offering baccalaureate degrees that build on associate degrees through online degree programs, such as the RN-to-BSN Completion Program. This program is designed for the working RN who is seeking a Bachelor of Science in Nursing through a 100% online program. The program is both affordable and flexible, allowing students to participate full-time or part-time as needed. The length of the program depends on the student and how many hours they are able to transfer. Most students transfer in 60-80 credits. The University System of Georgia established the University of North Georgia in 2013 after the consolidation of North Georgia College & State University and Gainesville State College. It is also called the Military College of Georgia and serves over 16,000 students. The combined University System has campuses in Dahlonega, Oakwood, Watkinsville, and Cumming, Georgia. The University of North Georgia also offers online classes, including the RN-to-BSN degree for current RNs looking to acquire a baccalaureate degree. The program is designed to be taken online, face-to-face, or a combination of the two. Students must attend some classes on campus, but it is generally no more than two classes per course. Students must also have an Associate’s degree or diploma in Nursing prior to starting the program. There is a 3 and 4 semester option for completing the program.

Commonly known as ODU, Old Dominion is a public, research university in Norfolk, Virginia. Old Dominion University was established in 1930 as the Norfolk Division of the College of William & Mary and is now one of the largest universities in Virginia. It currently enrolls over 25,000 students and spans over 250 acres. Old Dominion University’s RN-to-BSN program requires incoming students to have a nursing diploma or associate’s degree and offers flexibility and support for the working student, although online instructors may schedule assignments and exams for specific times. The nursing program at Old Dominion University has been offered since 1987 and the program is fully accredited. The program entails 120 credit hours and follows ODU’s regular semester schedule, but there is an accelerated option.

This accredited program is designed for licensed RNs who want to move into leadership positions or perhaps further their education to the graduate level. No campus time is required for this degree as it is 100% online. Clinical requirements can also be completed locally to each student. Students can complete the general courses at a school convenient to their location or take those courses online. This program is available to students nationwide. The RN-to-BSN program at University of Wyoming admits students each fall and spring. The program can be completed in as little as one year.

Georgia College and State University is a public liberal arts university in Milledgeville, Georgia with approximately 7,000 students. Georgia College, chartered in 1889, was designated Georgia’s “Public Liberal Arts University” in 1996, where the name was changed to Georgia College and State University (GCSU). Although GCSU offers traditional degrees through the School of Nursing, it also offers an online RN-to-BSN degree that takes an average of three semesters (or longer, if preferred) to complete. This program is fully online, with optional meetings offered for orientation, exams or presentations, though not required. The BSN degree requires 120 credit hours.

The University of South Dakota is a public research university in Vermillion, South Dakota, and is the oldest public university in the state. In fact, the University of South Dakota was established in 1862, before the Dakota was even declared a state. The University of South Dakota also houses South Dakota’s only medical school, law school, and accredited business school. The university offers over 10,0000 students many degree options, including a flexible online RN-to-BSN program. This particular program is designed for the working, licensed RNs to be able to advance their degree. There are three options for completing this degree: a full-time Fast Track, a part-time traditional track, and a part-time progressive track. The full-time Fast Track can be completed in 2 semesters, while the part-time Progressive Track allows students to take just one course a semester, allowing students to work full time.
University of Arkansas
University of Arkansas is a public research university located mainly in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The University of Arkansas System serves over 26,000 students and is comprised of six campuses within the state with campuses in Fayetteville, Monticello, Pine Bluff, Fort Smith, and two campuses in Little Rock. The University of Arkansas was founded in 1871 as the Arkansas Industrial University and given its present name in 1899. University of Texas at Arlington, known as UT Arlington, was founded in 1895 as Arlington College. The school currently enrolls approximately 35,000 students while offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.
